DIY a vintage sign for your home

I love the look of old vintage signs, but to buy in store, they are quite expensive. This is a simple and inexpensive way to make your own vintage signs.

What you will need:

  • Piece of wood (I found mine in my garage)
  • Spray paint
  • Craft paint
  • Paint brush or sponge
  • Sand paper (optional)

Step 1: Sand your piece of wood, if needed, and then spray paint. Set aside and let dry.

Step 2: To create the word home on my board I found a font I liked and printed it out. If you have great handwriting and feel comfortable free styling, more power to you! If you decide to print off a word for a template, I suggest lying the paper on the piece of wood and firmly write over the word(s). This will create an indent in the wood. Next, use your fabric paint and brush and stay within the intendente wood. Once painted, let dry. You may need to give a couple of coats depending on your colors.

Step 3: Once the paint is dry, your piece of art can be done. But if you like the more rustic/vintage vibe, then take a piece of sandpaper and go over the wood. I like to go over the corners and edges really well and go swiftly over the front.

This project took me an hour and cost about $10!
